That is the question that a reader makes to Andrés Calamaro in his section of the Rolling Stone (number 142, august of 2011) magazine: doctor rock. he replies the following text:
"The genre should be part of a history of gestures of noise, electroglam and elegant indifference. However, what today is known as indie doesnt fit to the hermetic commandments of the stuff we can tag as independent. [...] Well, the new wave doesnt wears only black (as we saw in the sad 90's, gold times of british indie). Another difference is a less commintment with the genre, which allows to have a lot of different "sub-genres" of indie."
Well, that is what Andrés Calamaro understands of the term "indie". I just want to give you a graphic description of indie music, so here you have some of my favourtie bands and songs:
I stand corrected, by Vampire Weekend
Shut up and let me Go, by The Ting Tings
The modern age, by the strokes
